I grew up in a rural area, which resulted in a lack of access to ways to learn TCGs and TTRPGs and would spend hours playing against myself.
The closest place to play MTG was ~40 minutes’ drive away making it pretty inaccessible. However, when I came to study in Dunedin, I made some friends that introduced me to the world of regular TTRPGs and TCGs.
As a result, I am always looking to share the games I love with others I meet hoping they can find a game and community that resonates with them like I did. So, when Liam offered me an opportunity to get involved with a store that would be about creating an accessible playing environment for players at all experience levels, I was very keen to help out.
One of my roles in Hobby Lords is providing knowledge and insight on games I am familiar with, particularly Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pathfinder 2.0. I am also involved with working at the store and engaging with the Yu-Gi-Oh! Community. Behind the scenes I am working on learning SEO for our website and preparing the occasional social media post relating to Yu-Gi-OH! set releases and ban lists.

I have a soft spot for Monopoly because I grew up playing the Star Wars addition constantly with my older brothers as well as the rest of my family, so it reminds me of them.
I remember one time a visitor at our house joined in a game and by the end of the game they said “I think I just played Monopoly with the Mafia.” This was in reference to the fact that our family tends to go a bit overboard, and form companies, then buy shares in each other’s companies and cutting all manner of deals to try and get the advantage over whoever is in the lead.
When I am not working with Hobby Lords or my PhD, I play football for Roslyn Wakari AFC and do various activities with my church community. I also enjoy PC gaming and when the opportunities arise, I love to go hunting and fishing.
